Dress rehearsal for Once A Catholic today.
Everything actually ran pretty well. The shirt looks great, and I couldn’t be happier with everyone’s costumes in the show. They look fabulous.
The lights went down and the bells rang, signifying the beginning of the show. I walk through the curtains and — right into the bench in front of me. Luckily, we’re in the dark, so I don’t think anyone important saw it. Also, I’m glad that I got it out of the way now so that it doesn’t happen in performance.
Everything seemed to be business as usual, I wasn’t even as nervous as I thought I would be when I went up for my scene. Thanks to my “Trivial Pursuit” cards (which I barely needed, anyway) I got through all the questions without a problem. Unfortunately, I skipped a couple of important lines in the monologue, and as a result, completely blanked out on the end. I turned my loss for words into a tense stare, which apparently played well.
All in all, however, it wasn’t bad. Or at least, I didn’t think so. Which, now that I think about it, could mean that i was terrible.
Anyway, I also had a surprise waiting for me in Hound rehearsal — my wheelchair. Funny, now that I think of it, A Far Country had me taunting Stephanie Smith about needing a wheelchair in the show, and now, I need one — I didn’t think about that until now. Anyhow, I got to play around with the wheelchair and find out how it works. It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be — it’s just going to be interesting when I have to run into Joel. I really wish I could get some time with that wheelchair in the MM before dress rehearsal… but, now that the dress rehearsals have already started, it probably isn’t to be.
I can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic about the job that I do acting in Inspector Hound as of yet. I know that it has to be bad in order to get good, but I know that I’m capable of more. Perhaps I’m just trying too hard.
