Waiting For Guffman With my newfound library card, I decided to stick it to the institution that is Blockbuster Video and take a DVD out of the library. Yes, the Rockland County Library System does in fact have new release titles available, my recent Blockbuster rental pattern (Streetcar, Fish Called Wanda) suggested that I should go for an older film.

Despite having seen both Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, I decided that Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman would be a good idea. After all, I enjoyed the other two flicks, and I’m a theatre dork… so… why not?

I must say that I really enjoyed this film. In fact, I was so taken by this movie that I actually think I may like it as much, if not better than A Mighty Wind (the only of the films I’ve seen theatrically).

I know I don’t share everyone’s opinion in this regard, but I didn’t like Best in Show all that much. Not that it didn’t have its moments, but I felt that Mighty Wind had funnier moments more frequently.

If you’ve never picked up one of these Christopher Guest mockumentaries, pick up Guffman first. Not only is it the first one in this “trilogy,” but it’ll give you a great idea of the kind of movie to come in the next two installments.
