You can tell a lot about movies from their trailers. I’ve checked out a couple of trailers for films coming out this year, and here’s what I think of the newest batch:

"X-Men 3: The Last Stand"

X-Men 3: The Last Stand
There’s something about this film that doesn’t really make me all too excited. Perhaps I’ve forgotten how good the first two were, or perhaps it’s the change of director that happened in pre-production, but this trailer really fails to send chills down my spine. I wonder what’s up with that. Anyhow, I can’t quite tell from these two minutes, but the film looks as if it’ll either be really good or mediocre (and, as a result, a let-down). I’m hoping for the former.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
This film is the latest from the minds of Will Ferrell and Adam MacKay, those who brought the world the delight that is Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. All I have to say is – thank God. What took so long in creating a follow up to Anchorman like this one? I think that NASCAR is the perfect subject to poke fun at, and Ferrell looks hilarious in this trailer (if you don’t think so, watch the clip of him signing that baby’s forehead again… wonderful!). I can’t wait for this film.

Stick It
Right from the first line of this trailer, I could tell that this film would be absolute crap. After watching the entire trailer, I’ve decided that Jeff Bridges is absolutely insane for signing the dotted line on this contract. There aren’t many gymnastics movies, nad I have a feeling that Stick It will prove why. The only thing I think that will work about this movie is the sure-to-be-misread line read “If you’re gonna eat mat, you eat mat hard!” Oh, lesbians!

Stay Alive
Intriguing. That’s what I’ll call it. From the beginning, I started wondering why films like this were still being made – a paper-thin premise attached to a horror flick – they’re just attempts to re-create Scream on the big screen. What I found interesting was that Frankie Muniz is in this film. It should be interesting to see Malcolm in a (semi) grown-up project… but I doubt it’ll be any good.

Winter Passing
Two Will Ferrell flicks in one Trailer Review section. Actually, I’ve wanted to check out this film for quite a bit. I find it intriguing that Ferrell seems to be playing a character different from the one he puts on almost-all-too-frequently-(but-not-quite). Overall, the film looks a bit too artsy for most. I don’t think it’ll be the best movie ever, but it definitely seems worth a screening.

"Art School Confidential"

Art School Confidential
This may well be one of the trailers that deceives me, but I can’t wait for it to hit theatres next month. I’ll definitely be throwing down my $10.
