So, I just finished watching the series premiere of “Psych” on the USA Network. I’ve been subjected to their onslaught of advertising for the show over the past few months, as I’m an avid WWE fan, and USA promotes their own shows rather heavily every Monday night on “Raw.” Perhaps I’m a sucker for an ad campaign, but I was genuinely interested in what “Psych” would be like.
Granted, I was a lot less interested when I found out that the premiere was an hour and a half long. I mean, if I wanted to watch a movie, I would have thrown a DVD in the player.
Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the show. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the most perfect show that I’ve ever seen, but it was fun. The show’s writing is pretty good (as it must be on a detective show, otherwise the show’s just lame) — not the same level as a C.S.I. or a S.V.U., but it’ll do. Additionally, it’s got a bit of a lighter feel to it, so you laugh along with the show — as opposed to having the shit scared out of you (as C.S.I. is wont to do, occasionally).
In short, check out “Psych” in reruns this weekend. It’s decent. I’m definitely going to check out the show whenever I get a chance… it combines the best parts of detective thriller serials, and comedic buddy cop movies… what’s not to love? I’m just surprised nobody’s thought of doing this sooner.
