Vitamin WaterA sad day today — as it has been reported that Glaceau, the Queens-based self-proclaimed “Center for Responsible Hydration” is being sold to the devil — er, I mean, Coca-Cola Company — for $4.1 billion.

(And you thought $2.00 was a lot to pay for Vitamin Water.)

Over the years, I’ve been hooked — not only on Vitamin Water, but on its “basic” brother, Smart Water. Almost every day at AADA, I would stop by next door and pick up a Formula 50 or a SmartWater on the way in (although I’d *never* break the school’s strict “no food or beverage” policy. ever.)

Why, just recently, my refrigerator has grown accustomed to a XXX inside the door.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Now that Coca-Cola is in charge, I don’t think I’m going to be as loyal a customer as I once was. Let’s face it Coca-Cola is right up there in the “Evil” category, alongside Nestle, Microsoft, and Mrs. Butterworth (not that the Butterworths have done despicable things to consumers, competing businesses, or the environment, I just happen to prefer Aunt Jemima).

Check out the whole story here, via BBC. Get your news from outside America, folks… even if that news is about soft-drinks.

For those interested (and I’m sure you’re not), my top-5 favorite Vitamin Water flavors:

5. Vital-T = Lemon Tea (C + E)
4. Revive = Fruit Punch (B + Potassium)
3. Power-C = Dragonfruit (C + Taurine)
2. XXX = Acai - Blueberry - Pomegranate (Triple Antioxidants)
1. Formula 50 = Grape (50% Daily Dose)

Runner Up ** Multi-V = Lemonade (A to Zinc) — This one would have placed on the list, but it’s kind of freaky that a drink can taste like Lemonade with absolutely no traces of lemon in it whatsoever…
